Why do you need a Ratepayers' & Residents' Association?

The Association is a form of 'collective,' a group of concerned citizens who cares about how our town is run, that local government’s financial dealings (tenders, salaries, and budgets) are transparent, and that the ‘voiceless’ among us (children, animals, the aged) have a champion who cares about their rights.

The more of us there are in the association, it stands to reason, the more weight our requests, concerns and opinions carry.

The Association is not connected to any political party nor to any race group. It represents ratepayers and residents of Prince Albert at both the North and South ends of town... and at all levels of Municipal service delivery. While we can’t prevent water restrictions or power outages we can, at least, try to keep members in the loop with advance warnings.

As a group our insights and expertise ensure that Prince Albert councillors and municipal officials are kept up to date with residents’ concerns... from confusing sewerage charges ... to street floods in winter and problem street children... all of which helps them to provide us with best possible levels of service delivery.

We also represent ratepayers and residents at monthly Ward Committee meetings and on the Integrated Development Planning forum. And we do our best to attend all public council meetings for report back to members.

Membership of the Association runs from 1st October to 30 September each year and costs just R20.
