A public notice from the office of the Executive Mayor

January 7, 2011

A notice appeared on many boards throughout town on 5th January 2011 from Mayor April Pienaar. And this it what it said:

“The vision of the Prince Albert Municipality is to ensure a transparent local authority for all the residents of Prince Albert, Leeu-Gamka and Klaarstroom.

Therefore the council wishes to inform all the residents regarding developments which transpired in connection with the Municipal Manager, Ms J.D. Fortuin. At a special meeting held on Monday 3rd January 2011 the council decided to suspend, with full benefits, the Municipal Manager pending an investigation after serious allegations were brought to light against the Municipal Manager. This office is in the process of appointing an investigating committee and will keep the residents informed of the outcome of this investigation.

Furthermore, the council decided, as the Municipal Manager always left the IDP Co-ordinator in charge whenever she was out of town, to appoint him until a better decision can be made at the next special council meeting.

I would also like to notify residents that this office is busy putting things in order and starts to-day with an anti-corruption campaign.

Lastly, on behalf of the council I wish all the residents of our Municipal area a prosperous 2011 .”

It was signed with thanks from A Pienaar, Executive Mayor.

Next day another notice went up from Mayor Pienaar informing residents that the MEC for local government (Anton Bredell) had called Prince Albert councillors to a meeting in Cape Town on Friday 7th January to discuss the way forward for the Municipality.

So, since things are rumoured to occur in threes, we await a third notice from Mayor Pienaar hopefully reporting back on the Cape Town meeting.

Municipal Manager Suspended
